Errors and what to do

Errors from the API carry a code (shown here) as well as the message. Codes are stable identifiers; messages can be reworded.

Getting in

Code	Message (or page title)	What to do
tenant_not_registered	Your organization isn’t set up yet	Nobody has signed up your Microsoft 365 organization, or Microsoft 365 isn’t connected yet. An administrator should sign up and connect Microsoft 365. If your organization already has an account, its owner may have disconnected it.
not_invited	You don’t have access yet	Ask an owner to add you in Admin → Users, or to turn on automatic joining.
seats_exhausted	No licenses available	All licenses are in use. An owner can disable or remove someone, or upgrade the plan.
subscription_inactive	No active subscription / Choose a plan to start using the app	An owner needs to choose a plan or fix the payment in Admin → Billing.
consent_required	Approval needed / Your organization hasn’t granted this app access to Microsoft 365 yet	A Microsoft 365 administrator needs to approve the app: owners use Approve as Microsoft 365 admin in Admin → Settings.
user_disabled	Your account is disabled	Ask an owner in your organization to enable it.
tenant_suspended	This organization is suspended	Contact support@example.com.
email_unverified	Confirm your email address first	Open the confirmation link; use Send it again on the sign-in page if needed.
invalid_credentials	Incorrect email or password	Check them, or use Forgot password?. Team members sign in with Microsoft, not email.
invalid_token	This confirmation/reset link is invalid or has expired	Request a new one. Confirmation links last 24 hours, reset links one hour, and each works once.
session_expired	Your session has expired / has ended	Sign in again.
unauthenticated	Please sign in.	Sign in.
email_taken	An account with this email already exists	Sign in instead, or use Forgot password?.
weak_password	Use at least 10 characters / Choose a less predictable password	Pick a longer, less predictable password.
rate_limited	Too many requests. Please wait a minute and try again.	Wait a minute.

Microsoft 365, OneDrive and Teams

Code	Message	What to do
entra_token_required	Sign in with Microsoft to use OneDrive, Teams and Outlook features.	In the browser, choose Sign in with Microsoft. Inside Teams this means sign-in didn’t complete; reopen the app.
entra_tenant_mismatch	That Microsoft account belongs to a different organization.	Sign in with the work account of the organization you’re using the app for.
microsoft_account_mismatch	Sign in with your own work account (…)	When connecting with your own account, use the Microsoft account for the same email as your app account, or use administrator approval.
microsoft_tenant_taken	That Microsoft 365 organization is already connected to another account.	One Microsoft 365 organization can belong to only one account. Contact support@example.com if you need it moved.
entra_not_configured	Microsoft sign-in isn’t configured on this server	Operators: set the ENTRA_* variables (guide).
invalid_entra_token	Invalid Microsoft token / Unexpected token issuer / Token is missing the access_as_user scope	Usually a configuration mismatch between the API, the Entra registration and the Teams package. See Entra troubleshooting.
graph_auth_failed	Microsoft sign-in exchange failed	Try again; operators should check the client secret hasn’t expired.
graph_…	(Microsoft’s own message)	An error from Microsoft Graph, for example a file that no longer exists or that you can’t access.
graph_upload_failed	Upload to Microsoft 365 failed	Try again; check the file size and your storage space.
too_large	That file is too large (max 25 MB).	Reduce the file size (Save as / optimize → Reduce file size) or ask the operator about the limit.

Users, billing and settings

Code	Message	What to do
seats_exhausted	Your plan includes N users and all are in use.	Upgrade the plan or remove a user.
user_exists	That person is already a user in your organization.	Nothing to do; find them in the list.
last_owner	Your organization needs at least one active owner.	Make someone else an owner first.
remove_self	You can’t remove yourself. Ask another owner.	Ask another owner.
too_many_users	The … plan includes N users, but you have M active users. Remove users first.	Disable or remove users, then switch plans.
custom_plan	Your organization is on a custom plan. Contact us to change it.	Email sales@example.com.
stripe_not_set_up	Stripe prices missing for: …	Operators: run npm run stripe:setup -w @pdfeditor/api (guide).
forbidden	You don’t have permission to do that	That needs a different role. See Roles.

Signing

Code	Message	What to do
signing_quota_exceeded	Your organization has used all N signing requests for this billing period.	An owner can buy extra signing requests or upgrade; otherwise wait for the next period.
signer_without_signature	Add a signature field for …	Place a Signature or Initials field for every signer.
bad_request	Remove the password from the PDF before sending it for signature.	Send an unencrypted PDF.
bad_request	Each recipient can only be added once / Add at least one signer	Fix the recipient list.
envelope_closed	This document can no longer be signed.	The request was completed, canceled, declined or expired.
envelope_expired	This signing request has expired.	Ask the sender to send it again.
already_responded	You’ve already responded to this request.	Nothing to do.
not_your_turn	It isn’t your turn to sign yet.	Wait for the email telling you it’s your turn.
field_required	Complete the required field: …	Fill in the highlighted field.
cannot_decline	You can’t decline this request.	Only signers who haven’t responded can decline.
envelope_unavailable	This signing request is no longer available.	The sender’s organization isn’t active. Contact the sender.
not_found	This signing link isn’t valid.	Use the link from the most recent email; earlier links can stop working after the service is reconfigured.

Anything else

validation_failed	(lists the fields)	A request was malformed; reload the page and try again.
server_error	Something went wrong on our side. Please try again.	Try again. If it keeps happening, contact support@example.com with the time it happened.
