Redaction
Redaction removes content for good: when you save, it isn’t hidden under a box, it’s gone from the file.
- Open the Protect tab.
- Mark what to remove:
- Mark for redaction, then drag over each area. The tool stays selected so you can mark several areas.
- Or Search & redact: type a word or phrase in the sidebar search, then choose Redact all N matches.
- Review the marked areas. Delete a mark with Delete if you change your mind.
- Save. Redactions are applied permanently when you save.
What happens when you save
Section titled “What happens when you save”Marked areas are filled (black unless you chose another fill color), and pages that contain redactions are flattened to images (at 200 DPI, or the resolution you chose under Save as → Reduce file size), so everything under the marked areas (text, images, vector graphics) is removed. The remaining text on those pages is put back as an invisible, searchable layer, so you can still search and select it.
